John Capurso has consulted with nonprofits in the northeast, Midwest, Texas, and Florida for 50 years. He has managed funding projects that have raised over $130 million for organizations that specialize in youth services, education, healthcare, religion, animal services, the arts, social services, and zoology.
John is principal at Summit Associates LLC, a full-service consultancy that provides professional guidance in fundraising, governance, strategic planning, management, and marketing for nonprofits. Most recently, from 2001-2014, he was founder and principal of Capurso Consulting.
Previously, he served as chief development officer at Catholic Charities of The Archdiocese of Miami, The Alexander Muss High School in Israel, Jackson Memorial Foundation, and South Florida Council – Boy Scouts of America, and he was a senior campaign manager for national fund-raising firms Ketchum, Inc. and Goettler Associates, Inc.
John is president of the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning – Miami Dade; is past president of the Association of Fundraising Professionals – Miami Chapter, and is former vice chair and current Miami representative to The Florida Caucus (AFP’s coalition of 19 chapters throughout Florida and Puerto Rico) .
John also serves proudly as vice chairman of the Board of Directors and chair of the Governance Committee and Development Committee of the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation, which funds research, education, and advocacy for organizations working to end breast cancer.
He is former vice chair of the International Conference hosted in Miami, Florida by the National Society of Fund-Raising Executives (attended by 4,000 fund-raising professionals), has co-chaired the annual state-wide Planet Philanthropy Conference in Florida, and has served as chair and co-chair of three National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheons in Miami.
John has presented at numerous professional conferences and is sought as a mentor to other fund-raising professionals.
